JAMB recently released the schools that have the highest number of applicants based on the number of students that made the school their first choice. The recently released list has already thrown some students into a panic because they are worried about competition.
Does most sought after mean most competitive?
No; Not really.
That a school is the most sought after does not automatically mean it is the most competitive because:
1. Admission quota:
Some most sought-after schools may have larger admission quotas that will eventually dilute their cutoff marks. Admission quota refers to the maximum number of students the school is authorized to admit per session. This varies by school and every university, for example, has its admission quota.
2. Cutoff marks fact
Candidates’ performances in O-Level, JAMB, and Post-UTME will either further increase the cutoff marks or further reduce them. I gave a more detailed explanation of this in this article.
So, do not panic even if your school is one amount the most sought-after universities, polytechnics, and colleges in Nigeria because a couple of things determine the admission cut-off marks.
All the best in your pursuit!
