The South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) is a consortium formed of 10 leading UK universities, all of which are engaged in cutting-edge social science research and training. SeNSS offers studentships across 13 Pathways, which are discipline-based. Please note that not all SeNSS partner institutions offer all 13 Pathways, and you will need to determine whether your chosen University offers the Pathway you are interested in.

Scholarship Description

  • Application Deadline: Around March
  • Course Level: Fellowships are available to pursue Postdoctoral programme.

  • Scholarship Award: The PDF grants provide funding for up to one year full-time, or up to two years part-time to give Fellows time to prepare for a successful career in research either within or beyond academia. In exceptional cases, applicants can apply for a fellowship for up to 18 months; however, this must be fully justified by the programme of activities being proposed.

Fellowships may include the following costs:

  • The Fellow’s salary costs;
  • Indirect costs;
  • Estate costs; and,
  • Up to £10,000 of other costs.

We particularly encourage applications from applicants whose proposal is aligned with the industrial strategy, as at least one of the PDFs will be awarded to such a proposal. For this competition, the ESRC has defined alignment as either addressing the skills gaps (AQM or data skills/science) or as entailing direct engagement with a business or industry partner.

Eligibility for the Scholarship

Eligible Countries: International students are eligible to apply for this fellowship.

Entrance Requirements: To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

This call is open to applicants who have:

1) Completed their Ph.D. at a research organization that is part of a current ESRC-funded Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) or Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT). A list of these DTPS and CDTs is available at the bottom of the ESRC Post-Doctoral Fellowships web page; and,

2) By 23 March 2018 (the application deadline), either been awarded a Ph.D. or submitted their thesis and passed their viva voce with minor corrections, with the expectation that their Ph.D. will be awarded by the Fellowship start date; and,

3) No more than 12 months of active post-doctoral experience. This 12 month period is calculated from the viva voce being passed to the closing date of the competition, 23 March

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
