University of Benin Teaching Hospital is affiliated to the University of Benin (UNIBEN). UNIBEN Teaching Hospital was founded in 1973 but the federal government took over the teaching hospital on April 1 , 1975. Since then , the UNIBEN Teaching Hospital has done great exploits in all ramifications. It has also been serving neighbouring states like Delta, Kogi and Ondo states in cases of severe diseases and abnormal health conditions.
In 1973, the university of Benin Teaching Hospital started with about 360 beds, but as at 2019 , statistics showed that the teaching hospital cam now boast of about 910 beds and still counting.
This can be regarded as a great improvement and has helped to improve the quality of services rendered by the teaching hospital. The Departments in University of Benin Teaching Hospital have been increasing over the years Creating a wide range of health care services aimed at improving the excellence of the hospital.
The University of Benin Teaching Hospital can also boast of seasoned , qualified and well trained doctors who play important roles in the daily smooth running of the hospital. The university of Benin Teaching Hospital also has a well equipped Dialysis center, CT – scanning service and Accident centre.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology consists of the following sub – departments;
- Infertility and Endocrinology unit

- Gynae – oncology and Uro – gynaecology unit

The clinic opens on mondays ,Tuesdays , Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 12pm daily. Antenatal registration is done between 11am – 3pm daily.

The department of family medicine in University of Benin Teaching Hospital was established in 1973 under the leadership of Dr JA Ehanire. The clinic opens between 8am and 6pm from Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 5pm on weekends and public holidays. The clinic attends to about 500 patients per day.

UNIBEN Teaching Hospital School of Nursing
The university of Benin school of Nursing awards the certificate that qualifies one to be a registered nurse (RN). Candidates are admitted through an Entrance examination that is usually conducted every year. The application form costs #10,000
Candidates who wish to apply must have 5 credits passes in WAEC / NECO / GCE which must include Mathematics and English in not more than than two sittings
The Acceptance fees is usually paid before school fees is paid. The acceptance fee is always between #10,000 – #20,000.
